#BeMoreLikeClaire Board of Directors FAQ's
Q. What is the time commitment?
A. The Board meets monthly for 90 minutes. In 2023, the meetings are on the first Tuesday from 6:00-7:30. Board orientation is early in the year, and an annual board retreat late in the year. Board members are expected to attend and work at our big annual fundraiser, the Give Back Bash, which will be held on September 9, 2023. Each board member will participate in at least one committee, and that time commitment will vary according to the needs of that committee.
Q. What would my term of service be?
A. Board member terms begin in January. Approximately a third of the board rotates off each year. Board members are eligible to serve two- consecutive three-year terms.
Q. Will I receive any training?
A. We have a formal orientation for new board members consisting of an overview of roles and responsibilities. Board members will need to become comfortable with using Google Drive and other useful technology. The board retreat will also provide more information.
Q. Do I have to give a certain amount of money?
A. Board members are expected to make a contribution of significance according to their capacity. Board donations reinforce our commitment to the #BeMoreLikeClaire mission and make it easier to solicit contributions from community members.
Q. What will my committee responsibilities be?
A. Each board member is required to participate on one committee. Our committees are Governance & Finance, Communications & Marketing, Development, and Claire's Community. We have an ad hoc committee that plans our annual fundraiser, the Give Back Bash. All committees welcome volunteers who are willing to serve, but not ready for a full board position.
Q. How and when are officers elected?
A. The #BeMoreLikeClaire Board of Directors elects four officers: president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. The executive committee is made up of the past president, president, vice president, and executive director. Any board member is eligible to hold office. Officers serve for a one-year term and may serve two consecutive terms. They are elected annually by the full board at the November meeting and begin their term in January. When a vacancy occurs, the board may elect a new member at that time.
